I have to admit the book started pretty slow and I did get bored but it seemed to pick up as you read along. I like the development of feelings they had for each other even though they were True Mates, unlike other true mates stories the still were working on building a relationship there wasn't an immediate mating. That is what may have threw me off but as i got into the story I did enjoy the fact they were true mates but still worked on getting to know each other. There isn't really an antagonist in this book other than the quick part of the attack but nothing that follows to next story. All in all it actually is a good story

Frey Ortega's Rude Awakening is a nicely written paranormal piece of Erotica that uses plot points ripped from today's headlines about gay bashing to awaken the reader to their real-life difficulties. While his novel presented some 'moments' to a straight person such as myself, the narration and the characters were well written and fleshed out in a way I found endearing.

The budding relationship between Ethan Thackeray and Adam James, a werewolf shifter who saves Ethan from being terrorized by thugs, is just as frothy and romantic as a relationship between members of the opposite sex. As Ethan falls in love with Adam, things get dangerous, suspenseful, and ultimately enlightening.

If you have an affinity toward M/M Erotica, you'll love it for the relationship. If you like paranormal suspense, you'll love it for the plot. Either way, or either sexual orientation, it's a five star novel.
This was the first book I ever read from Frey Ortega and I can tell you this won’t be the last. He has a unique writing voice and this story was so compelling. The way that things were described in the book made me feel like I was watching it through my eyes, which is what I love when reading. I want the story to pull me in, make me feel for the characters and their story, which is exactly what Rude Awakenings did for me. From when the book started I was so drawn to Ethan, he is not what you call a social person. Well at least with people other than his friends. He loves to dance and yeah so do I! On the way home from the club his is jumped and saved by enter in hot alpha wolf shifter Adam!!! SWOON!! Adam knows that Ethan is the one for him, but little does Ethan know that there is more to the world than just humans. Talk about a Rude Awakening, when Ethan finds out that his boyfriend is a wolf shifter and that humans are not the only being in the world, he runs scared. I found this part extremely compelling, had Ethan just accepted things as they were, I would have felt cheated. His emotions were true to his personality. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for Ethan to get some dang sense and return to his mate. I can’t say more or I will give away the entire story, but you don’t want to miss this! I can’t wait to get into the second book! Amazing Job Mr. Ortega.

Ethan was not a people person, but he enjoy his friends and going dancing. One night they went dancing and his friends went home and he stay. On his way home from the club, he is attack by 3 people. Before he become to hurt he is saved by Adam and Thatcher. Ethan can't describe the feeling he has towards Adam, cause he usually doesn't like people. Once he gets to know and start dating Adam. He is invite to a party at Adam home with some of his friends. This is at the time that Ethan learn that there is more in the world then humans. He finds out that his boyfriend is a wolf shifter and he runs. Finally he realize that he is meant to be with Adam and returns to him. This awesome books and the characters draw you in.
OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE BOOK This is awesome book very hard to put down.I definitely recommend this book and cant wait for the next one.

This is my first time reading author Frey Ortega, I really like the style of writing. It is fast paced, action packed, and full of romance. Into the New World series starts out with Rude Awakening. Here you meet Adam James, he is an alpha werewolf. I liked his protective, caring nature. He is alpha but not so alpha you dislike him. He has the right amount of loving spirit and true alpha qualities.
His mate Ethan is a human. Usually shifters and humans are not mates. But Adam will do anything to be with his mate. Even if his mate is human. Ethan is very sweet, and almost naïve in some of his ways. I liked that about him. I can see him needing Adam in his life. Ethan’s strength is in his capacity to love unconditionally and that is something Adam needs desperately.
I liked the world building in this story. There is just enough to keep me wanting more but not so much to overwhelm me. That is a hard thing to do when you are establishing a new world. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. I want to know what happens next and who finds a mate.

Well it was ok had little trouble following the story plot but like I said it was ok..I will read more see how it goes..
I'm not really sure if I liked this book. The story was okay, but the writing style was dry. Also, the author had a tendency to repeat things which I found annoying. I found myself putting the story down repeatedly as I couldn't get into it fully, but I wanted to know how it ended. I also found that I liked the supporting characters more than the main characters. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'll read the next one in the series.

I'm giving this just 2.5 stars, but rounded it up to three.
